Ernad, which belongs to Malabar, the erstwhile district of British India, is a land with a pretty old history and heritage. It has an extensive tradition of cultural interaction as well. Here inhabits a populace, which has assimilated many extraneous and exotic traditions and customs. With a very susceptible social psyche, the people of Ernad could accomplish an everlasting bond with remote expanses and cultures much ahead in time of other parts of the peninsula. The still alive rapport with the West Asians and Europeans is an illustrative example of this fact. Paradoxically enough, the children of Ernad got halters on its tracks and could not proceed apace in its pursuit of education.
